Roman modillions

Carvings from a roman french church
These modillions are replicas of stone carvings from Mur-de-Barrez church.
Roman carving were always full of meaning.
The deer represents St John Baptist. The one in the middle represents the man who resist to his passions, his animal impulses, helped by  the holy scriptures. At the opposite, the one one the right represents the man who surrendered, he's eaten by the animal in him.

Black ones are ebonized oak, in the middle ebonized limewood.
